This greenfield site lies on the edge of the National Trust owned Clumber Park. It is an historic park originating in the early 18th century. It is a low-lying and heavily wooded area spanning the shallow valley of the River Poulter. The park is fully owned by the National Trust and is a Registered Historic Park characterised by mature woodland (part of Sherwood Forest) intersected by roads and bridleways and centred on the man-made lake and surviving buildings of an 18th and 19th century country house demolished in the 1930’s. JDAs role involved developing a highly-sensitive design for the site, lodges and amenity buildings and then coordinating a design team that included historical consultants, landscape architects, ecologists and others in order to demonstrate to the local planning authority that the proposals would not have a negative impact on the park nor on views to the site from the wider area. This sensitive approach to the design resulted in planning permission being granted for 125 lodges plus amenity buildings and associated infrastructure.
