I am an experienced safety and health consultant with over 20 years experience gained within a construction environment. I spent the first 10 years of my career in the mining sector later moving in to health and safety and operating at a national level with the Environment Agency and Coal Authority. During this time I was responsible for developing and implementing health and safety training, assessing contractor performance, developing policies and procedures and introduction of the health and safety management and auditing systems. In 2004, I wanted a new challenge and set up JDA Safety. From inception, the company has been successful and seen continuous growth particularly within a construction environment. I am currently enjoying the opportunity to work with numerous clients to ensure their responsibilities under the new CDM regulations are fulfilled and the role of principal designer appropriately allocated and fulfilled.
Over the years many projects have presented unique challenges requiring practical solutions to maintain safe working and it is difficult to outline one particular scheme. However, the replacement roof at the Center Parcs Longleat Forest Sub Tropical Swimming Paradise would have to rank as one of the most challenging and complex safety project I have been involved with. Over two years 1636 panes of glass were removed, structural timber repairs carried out and new metal deck and ETFE roof structure installed. These works were carried out over a live swimming pool and retail environment and required substantial temporary works design and construction solutions to maintain safety of construction operatives and holiday guests.
When time allows, I enjoy both mountain bike riding and road cycling, the freedom and fresh air clears the mind and is good for the lungs. When I’m not out on my bike, I enjoy hill walking and coastal adventures with my family.
